FAQs

  • What is a PCR test

PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction and is a method of testing used to detect infectious diseases, including COVID-19. A PCR test is performed in a laboratory and is indicative of an individual’s COVID status at the time their sample is taken. It does not show previous infection. PCR tests are internationally recognised as the gold standard for COVID-19 testing by World Health Organisation (WHO) and the backbone of every government’s national testing program.

  • What is an Antigen test?

Antigen tests, also known as rapid antigen or lateral flow tests, look for proteins produced by the virus called antigens. An antigen test does not require a laboratory. These are similar to a pregnancy test. The results of your antigen test will be reported in approx 30min

Some countries now accept rapid antigen testing or require an antigen test as a secondary test (along with a negative PCR test) prior to departure.  Antigen tests (sometimes called a ‘lateral flow test’) will reveal if a person is currently infected with a pathogen such as the COVID-19 virus.  Results available within 1 hour.

Please confirm with your destination that this testing method is accepted as a means for entry.

  • How Do I know if I need a COVID 19 test to travel?
